Steroid analysis in saliva: a noninvasive tool for pediatric research and clinical practice.

چکیده

Asaliva é um fluido de fácil obtenção, não-invasivo que pode ser usado paramonitorar a concentração de uma ampla variedade de drogas, hormônios, anticorpos e outras moléculas.Os testesdiagnósticosbaseadosemamostrasde saliva são atualmente utilizados com freqüência na endocrinologia, pesquisa em pediatria, emestudos clínicos empsicologia e psiquiatria, bem como na pesquisa sobre estresse. É importante ressaltar que o uso da saliva como veículo para a determinação dos níveis plasmáticos do hormônio esteróide em crianças e adolescentes vem aumentando consideravelmente. Neste número do Jornal de Pediatria, Silva et al. relatam o uso de cortisol salivar para avaliar o eixo hipotalâmico-hipofisárioadrenal em crianças hígidas com idade entre 45 dias e 36meses. Os autores estabeleceram valores de referência para o cortisol salivar utilizando um radio-imunoensaio in-house contendo um anticorpo contra cortisol-3-oxima conjugada à albumina bovina. Esses dados são importantíssimos já que podem ser usados como referência na rotina pediátrica diária e na pesquisa empediatria. Eles tambémajudama elucidar o desenvolvimento de ritmos circadianos e a fisiologia do sistema endócrino nos lactentes humanos.
